Zyloprim
Generic Name: Allopurinol
This medication reduces the amount of uric acid the body makes. Too much uric acid in the blood can cause damage and produce kidney stones and gout. This medication will help to prevent gout, but will not ease an acute attack.
It is also used to help prevent to decrease uric acid levels that occur as a result of some sorts of chemotherapy for certain types of leukemia, lymphoma or solid tumors.

How Taken Zyloprim
Take the tablets by mouth and follow the directions on the label. Swallow the tablets with a glass of water. If this medication upsets your stomach, take it with food or milk. Take your doses at regular intervals and Do not take your medication more often than directed.
Zyloprim Warnings/Precautions
Before taking Zyloprim, tell your doctor if you have kidney or liver disease. You may need a lower dose of Zyloprim or special monitoring during your therapy. Zyloprim is in the FDA pregnancy category C. This means that it is not known whether Zyloprim will harm an unborn baby. Do not take Zyloprim without first talking to your doctor if you are pregnant. Zyloprim passes into breast milk. Do not take Zyloprim without first talking to your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby.
Zyloprim Missed Dose
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the dose you missed and take only your next regularly scheduled dose. Do not take a double dose of this medication.
Zyloprim Possible Side Effects
Side effects that you should report to your doctor as soon as possible: any type of skin rash or itching, any signs of an allergic reaction such as difficulty breathing, wheezing, swelling or irritation of the eyes, or swelling of the lips and mouth, blood in urine, muscle aches or pains, pain or difficulty passing urine, reduced amount of urine, redness, blistering, peeling or loosening of the skin, including inside the mouth, sore throat, fever, or chills.
Side effects that usually do not require medical attention (report to your doctor if they continue or are bothersome): diarrhea, headache, indigestion, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, nose bleeds, stomach pain or cramps.
Zyloprim Storage
Keep out of the reach of children in a container that small children cannot open. Store at room temperature between 15 and 25 degrees C (59 and 77 degrees F). Protect from moisture. Throw away any unused medication after the expiration date.
Zyloprim Overdose
Seek emergency medical attention. Symptoms of Zyloprim overdose are not known.

Use caution when driving, operating machinery, or performing other hazardous activities. Zyloprim may cause drowsiness. If you experience drowsiness, avoid these activities. Avoid alcohol. It may worsen your condition. Follow your doctor's recommendations about diet.
