Levbid
Generic Name: Hyoscyamine sulfate
Levbid is an antispasmodic medication given to help treat various stomach, intestinal, and urinary tract disorders that involve cramps, colic, or other painful muscle contractions. Because Levbid has a drying effect, it may also be used to dry a runny nose or to dry excess secretions before anesthesia is administered.
Together with morphine or other narcotics, Levsin is prescribed for the pain of gallstones or kidney stones. For inflammation of the pancreas, Levbid may be used to help control excess secretions and reduce pain. Levbid may also be taken in Parkinson's disease to help reduce muscle rigidity and tremors and to help control drooling and excess sweating. The drug is sometimes prescribed during treatment for peptic ulcer.
Doctors also give Levbid as part of the preparation for certain diagnostic x-rays (for example, of the stomach, intestines, or kidneys).

Levbid Uses
Levbid is used to control conditions such as excessive stomach acid production, excessive secretion from the pancreas, and excessive sweating and drooling associated with diseases like Parkinson's disease.
How Taken Levbid
Hyoscyamine comes as a tablet, an extended-release (long-acting) capsule, a liquid to take by mouth, and in an injectable form. The tablets and liquid are usually taken three or four times a day. The extended-release capsules are usually taken twice a day. Do not crush, chew, or divide the extended-release capsules. Hyoscyamine injections are given by qualified health care professionals. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand. Take hyoscyamine exactly as directed. Do not take more or less of it or take it more often than prescribed by your doctor.
Hyoscyamine controls symptoms associated with disorders of the GI tract, but it does not cure the disorders. Continue to take hyoscyamine even if you feel well. Do not stop taking hyoscyamine without talking to your doctor.
